What is a Public-School Trustee?
A public-school trustee is an elected official who serves on the Calgary Board of Education Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing the operation and governance of local public schools within a specific ward. Trustees ensure that schools meet the educational needs of students and the community by making decisions on policies, budgets, and the overall direction of the school division. They act as representatives for parents, students, and the community, advocating for their interests within the education system.
Why am I running?
I am deeply passionate about education and have dedicated over 30 years to helping students succeed — as a public school teacher, a tenured instructor at SAIT, and a sessional at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business. Over the years, I have worked with learners of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, including those facing significant challenges. These experiences have shown me that when students are supported, encouraged, and provided with the right resources, they can thrive.
As a Public-School Trustee with the Calgary Board of Education, I want to be a strong voice for families — someone who will listen, advocate, and make decisions that reflect the needs of our students and our community. This role offers an opportunity to influence policies, guide the allocation of resources, and shape safe, inclusive learning environments where every child has the chance to reach their potential, no matter their starting point.
My diverse background across multiple levels of education has given me a unique perspective and the skills needed to navigate complex issues, collaborate effectively, and lead with integrity. I believe in a school system that prioritizes equity, celebrates diversity, and works in partnership with families and educators to create the best possible outcomes for all students.
